Military Training: Marines free body training

The military corps are prepared so that they can face the most difficult and extreme situations. The hardest workouts are those carried out by the US special forces.

The most famous military corps are certainly the US Navy SEALs, the Special Forces of the United States Navy, within which there is a component specialized in counter-terrorism, commonly known as "SEAL Team 6", but officially called United States Naval Special Warfare Development Group (DEVGRU).

The SEALs are employed by the government of the United States of America in unconventional conflicts and wars, internal defense, direct action, anti-terrorism actions and in special reconnaissance missions, in mainly maritime and coastal operating environments. Their name (SEAL) is an acronym that encompasses the environments in which they have been trained to operate (Sea, sea - Air, air - Land, mainland).

The Training of Recruits

The training of the recruits is known as BUD / S - SQT (Basic Underwater Demolition / SEALs - SEAL Qualification Training).

BUD / S

In order to access the actual training (BUD / S), it is necessary to pass the PST, which requires at least:

  • 500 yards (approximately 455 meters) to swim in less than 12 minutes and 30 seconds;
  • at least 42 pushups in 2 minutes;
  • at least 50 sit-ups in 2 minutes;
  • at least 6 pull-ups (from a lying position);
  • 1,5 miles (about 2,4 kilometers) of running in amphibians and long pants in less than 11 minutes and 30 seconds.

These values are the minimum to be considered suitable at the beginning of training. The values considered "competitive" are instead:

  • 500 yards (about 455 meters) to swim in less than 10 minutes;
  • 80-90 push-ups in 2 minutes;
  • 80-100 abs (sit-ups) in 2 minutes;
  • at least 20 pull-ups (from a lying position);
  • 5 miles (about 2.4 kilometers) of running in amphibians and long pants in less than 9 minutes and 30 seconds.

Training of the Marines

How is the physical training of the Marines structured?

Recruits undergo extremely long PT sessions (physical training: push-ups, sit-ups and bar lifts; endurance runs on the sand for about 12-24 kilometers a day; endurance runs carrying a boat overhead in a group), Log PT (physical exercises carried out with huge telephone poles weighing over 150 kg, used as additional weights), O-Course (a war course of particular technical difficulty and physical fatigue), swimming evolutions (long swimming tests on the ocean coast , up to eight kilometers).

In recent years these types of training have become popular in gyms so much so that they are applied in a revisited way to ordinary people.

These exercises are performed in giant sets that is all in a row without even a moment to recover are mainly free body and with some tools also used for functional training such as trx, sandbag and tractor tires.

Examples of Training Cards

Below are some examples of military training simulation

20 'of low intensity running as a warm-up

3 'of recovery

Now we are going to run a timed circuit with no downtime (recovery) between one exercise and another. I have provided 3 different types of cards. One base, one intermediate and one for experienced athletes. Here they are below.

Good workout!
