When to end a relationship

Last update: 26 March, 2015

Relationships are an important part of our life and everyone has had to end a love relationship. Pinpointing when a relationship is over or about to end can be crucial to physical and mental health. But how can you be sure that a relationship has no future anymore?

Thinking about ending a relationship and actually doing it are two very different things. Sometimes, we simply plan the end of a relationship, trying to find the best way to make this decision easy, or we hang on for fear of hurting the other person..

Without love there is no relationship

It's sad, but it can happen to anyone to stop loving their partner. In this situation, the fault is not of anyone, but it is something that is part of the natural evolution of all of us. Many times we get carried away with guilt and don't want to hurt the other person. However, this only causes more pain. It must always be remembered that a loveless relationship can have negative consequences for the couple.

Trust is an important element

Infidelity, deception or lies are factors that can destabilize a relationship, so much so that one of the two people involved can lose faith in the other.. Sometimes you can try to save the relationship, but if the damage is profound, the relationship will never go back to the way it was before. When the damage is irreparable, there will continue to be quarrels and jealousy, which will only diminish mutual trust.

The couple relationship no longer exists

A couple relationship takes a lot of work in order to function. When one party loses interest and everything falls on the other person, the relationship ends. This situation usually generates resentment in the person who feels they are carrying the full weight of the relationship. The couple may try to find a solution, but if they don't achieve positive results, then it's time to end the relationship.

You no longer tolerate what you previously loved about your partner

It may seem strange or ironic, but over time we can come to hate those little things or details of the partner that initially attracted us. Before ending a relationship for this reason, it's important to talk to your partner and explain the situation. If the person is unwilling to change and we no longer tolerate that attitude, it is best to end the relationship.

Irremediable differences

To be stable, a relationship must be formed by two people who have similar goals, dreams and values. When one or more of these elements change and the two people are no longer looking for the same things, then it is time to end the relationship. Sometimes these details just fluctuate and the couple can work until they strike a deal. However, if the differences are that great, the best thing to do is to end the relationship.
