Learn from your mistakes

Last update: February 26, 2015

Nobody likes to make mistakes, but when they do, you should be able to learn from them and realize that they are an essential part of self-improvement. You don't have to feel overwhelmed by guilt and remorse, rather learn to grow from them.

Of course, very often you will be overly self-critical, especially when you realize that your behavior could have been better than it actually was. But the really important thing is to learn from mistakes and improve next time.

How to learn from mistakes

- Don't get blocked from the decisions you have made in the past. Those can no longer be remedied: but from now on, try to do things at your best.

- Cultivate trust in your relationships, because it is one of the great reasons that keep you connected to people, both when you give and when you receive trust. Get away from untrustworthy people.

- If you really want to be forgiven by someone you have harmed, you must be able to feel their pain; only in this way will the affected person be able to hear that your apologies are sincere, and that you are repentant.

- Don't feel guilty when you are too complacent, sometimes you just need to be discreet or accept that particular situation.

- In reality, you must have pleasant behaviors, do not make others suffer. If you are treating them badly, you will not feel good about yourself.

- Check yours anger, because it can kill your motivation. It is much better to leave anger aside than to waste time and energy on sarcastic jokes or hurting people.

- Don't give up when you have plans.

How to do it

Feed dignity

If you have made a mistake that has hurt someone, it is important to offer that person a worthy apology, to restore trust. If you don't apologize, because you are ashamed or unwilling, the offended person will turn against you. If the apology is sincere, he may forgive you.

It is much better to apologize in personrather than through an email or message. And, once you've done that, don't keep apologizing for the same reason: it is good that the excuse is only one, but sincere, and then move on.

Don't be too perfectionist

If you are afraid of making a mistake, you will spend most of your life doing nothing. Making mistakes is an essential part when the future is at stake. If you feel the need to avoid mistakes at any cost, you will create a psychological barrier that will prevent you from taking risks.

Don't justify your mistakes

Natural instinct tries to find justifications for our actions and, when we make a mistake, we immediately try to justify it for the sake of our ego. Sometimes it is better to tell the truth, which is that you made the mistake.

Understand the mistakes

We make mistakes for several reasons and, if we want to avoid repeating them, that's good understand the underlying reason. If you make mistakes because you are always tired, try to get more sleep. If, on the other hand, you are feeling permanently stressed, look for ways to relax and put the stress aside.

Avoid repeating mistakes

You must avoid feeling guilty when you make a mistake, but, at the same time, you must learn from it. If you repeat the same mistakes, it is clear that you are not progressing: very often, in fact, mistakes are due to bad habits. To avoid repeating mistakes, it takes great consideration and a clear effort to change your way of thinking.
