When we don't want to get out of bed

Last update: April 27, 2020

It happened to everyone. There are days when we don't even want to get out of bed, because we are facing many problems or because we are experiencing a grief that we cannot overcome. Maybe we feel bored with it all, but we can't find a way out.

What we want least of all is for someone to come and encourage us. An extremely complicated emotional state: you need motivation, but reject everything that can actually give it. We don't want to get out of bed, we want to stay there, in a state of inactivity. Sleeping or being half asleep, but in any case do not face the day.

Maybe it isn't negative. It is possible that these states come as a warning to take a break. Maybe we should have stopped some time ago, but we didn't realize it. Those days when we don't want to get up are also a good opportunity to start reflecting on what is happening.

“The enthusiast always wins over the apathetic. It is not the strength of the arm, nor the virtue of weapons, but the strength of the soul that achieves victory ”.

-Johann Gottlieb Fichte-

When we don't want to get out of bed, we take a parenthesis

It's good and even advisable to allow yourself a space on those days when we don't even want to get up. IS positive and even advisable to indulge un break. That's probably what our mind is screaming at us and we don't want to hear. Life is not always doing what we want, there are circumstances in which it is important to give a margin to our desires.

If we're sad, it's not okay to stay in bed all day or just get up briefly to get back under the covers. It means giving up and moving towards depression. If we give up and give in, we will begin to cut ties, have problems at work or get enveloped in a spiral of apathy that will be very difficult to get out of.

It is better to take a break, a parenthesis that opens and closes. Something is happening and we need to think about what it is. Because we have come to this point. Try to find an exit, even if partial, to the situation that afflicts you.

The first steps

When we don't even want to get out of bed, we have to force ourselves to. We can sleep a little more if we want, but we don't overdo it. This is the first goal that we must set ourselves. It is also the first result to get out of this state.

We visualize the steps to follow. Get up, wash, get dressed. Each of them is a goal to be fulfilled. If we love each other and want our life to be better, let's start here. We seek and find a way that does not compromise our work obligations or cause serious harm to work or study. Is very important. If the break causes us problems, getting up tomorrow will be even more difficult. On the other hand, if we decide to postpone it, we mark a day on the calendar.

Once this first phase is over, let's not barricade ourselves at home. If we like to read, it is better to do it in a park with children who instill joy, in an environment that does not remind us that among the pending activities there is the cleaning of the house.

Take back control

If we can get out of the house, in a green and quiet space, e we have identified the main source of ours apathy, good news: we have begun to regain control of our lives. Let's not stop there. We have to go further.

Let us examine the alternatives available to us to address that great concern that bothers and depresses us. Let's think if it's the first time this has happened to us or if we've been like this before. Has it happened often? With a lot of intensity? Do we think there is something else underneath, something we can't visualize? Depending on the answers to these questions, we will know if we can resolve the situation on our own or if we need help.

If we don't find the answers to these questions or feel confused, there's no need to worry. It's normal. At this point we should be aware that it is time to close the parenthesis. Life must go on. If we think it is not possible, we certainly need help. If we see it possible, however, let's move on. Let's repeat the same questions the next day and as many times as necessary, until we find an answer.

In the meantime, let's not forget that even if we're on one of those days when we don't even want to get out of bed, we still have to. We set new goals every day and reach them. Let's not give in to the temptation to sink into dissatisfaction. It won't get us anywhere.
