The properties of strawberries

A recipe with strawberries

Have you ever used strawberries to wet the sponge cake? No, but do you want to try? Here's how to do it:

> five strawberries
> the juice of one lemon,
> 2/3 tablespoons of brown sugar,
> 300 ml of water.

Preparation: wash the strawberries and cut them into small pieces, put them in a saucepan together with the juice of a lemon, the sugar and two tablespoons of water. Cook until the sugar has dissolved. Allow the mixture to cool, blend and add the rest of the water. Use to wet the sponge cake.

This wet, also very suitable for cakes for childreni, goes well with fillings based on dark chocolate, custard and cream.

The properties of cherries

Cherries contain vitamin A, vitamin C, calcium, phosphorus, potassium and magnesium. They are a source of protein and carbohydrates. Like all red fruits, they boast a good content of flavonoids, substances with antioxidant properties.

They are diuretic, purifying, detoxifying and thirst-quenching. Thanks to the presence of malic acid they stimulate the activity of the liver. They are rich in melatonin, a substance that promotes regular sleep patterns.

They have important laxative qualities and, for this reason, they are not recommended for children under the age of three as, in the smallest, could cause diarrhea.

There are many variety of cherries. In the country, among the best known, there are:


  • the Ferrovia cherry, very common in Puglia, with its characteristic juicy pulp;
  • the Durone cherry, very pulpy and large;
  • the Anella cherry, bright red in color.

A recipe with cherries

Have you ever thought about eating le cherries in salad? Try this:

Ingredients (for 4 people):
> 200 grams of valerian,
> 200 grams of cherries,
> 50 grams of walnuts,
> sale,
> extra virgin olive oil.

Wash the cherries, cut them in half and remove the stone. Add them to the valerian and finish with 50 grams of coarsely chopped walnut kernels, a pinch of salt and a tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil.
