Time to fly

Last update: July 10, 2015

Maharat had turned 22 and dreamed of traveling and venturing to distant lands. Her mother, wishing to protect him, tried to erase all her wishes with any kind of argument and manipulation, managing to paralyze her enthusiasm. The young man lived in constant frustration, as he loved his mother and was tied to her judgment and his customs. One day, full of doubts, he decided to climb the mountain to reflect on the family chains that tortured him. There, he fell asleep, closed his eyes and a strange scene began to unfold in his mind:

A species of fowl, which apparently did not possess the gift of flight, was hatching the egg of another bird it had found in its nest. The egg hatched and, after some time, the chick asked the mother:

- When will I fly? And she replied:

- Why do you want to fly? Don't you see how well we live the way we are? Also, if you fly, I won't be able to take care of you and beyond this land there are unknown dangers.

When Maharat awoke, he felt confused and strangely relieved. As he came down the mountain, he heard the notes of a lute and a cheerful song that said:

“If you want to live like eagles, don't stay among the sparrows”.

 (Flight of the Eagles)

Don't give up on your dreams out of fear of others, including your family. The only ones frustrated are you. Accept the advice, but follow it as if it were indications of life, not as impositions. Those who want roses will have to learn to walk among the thorns, says an old proverb.

You have to aspire to fly high and you will never be able to find all the conditions of life in your favor. There will always be many "buts". However, part of the game of life is to be clear about the goals you want to achieve.

Fear of oneself and of others

It is no secret to anyone that life is not easy and that there are many times when we have to make decisions that involve risks or sacrifices, in the name of individual happiness or collective well-being.

Life never warns when the time is or the time has come. The best opportunities sometimes come when we least expect them.

It is vitally important to know how to identify them and take advantage of them as much as possible because no one knows if they will recur and in what way.

As says the poem "Instants" by Jorge Luis Borges, "I would go to places where I have never gone, I would eat more ice cream and fewer beans". You have to be more "stupid" than you have ever been, in the good sense of the word.

Without a doubt, the opportunity you missed today may be your biggest regret tomorrow. And time is relentless. For this reason, sooner or later, it will show us if we were right to stay still or we should have done something to improve our life..

The character and the criterion

Here your character and your criteria are tested, in the sense that it is your job to listen carefully to the advice that other people offer you. But it is also your job to decide, following the reason more than the heart.

There is a time for everything: a time to laugh, a time to cry, a time to be cautious, and a time to fly.

No one would make progress in life without taking the risk. You almost always have to lose something to get another. And the best thing in these cases is to consider the effort and moments of doubt as an investment, not a cost or a loss. Your common sense and your judgment regarding the variables of life are the same on which your happiness will be based.

The advice we give you is: always take the risk, with common sense and prudence. It is not a question of losing everything in one fell swoop, nor of regaining it overnight. It is about growing, little by little, as people and as human beings.

Detachment is difficult, but necessary. If you want to achieve success in life, then bear in mind the teaching of the tale "Flight of the Eagles" and what life itself is giving you. You never stop learning and nobody can know everything.
