The best option overall:

1. LANGUAGE OF THE BODY AND UNDERSTANDING OF PEOPLE; the complete guide to understanding people's behaviors and studying their attitudes

Author: Alicia Grottaglie

A great guide to begin to interpret the signals of any person with whom we speak, as well as to improve your self-awareness: moderate your behavior, tone of voice and gestures, depending on what the other person shows us while we are having a conversation.

A useful book for those interested in the subject, it manages to explain in a simple way what are the most unconscious behaviors of man.

Maximum understanding of facial expressions.

4. Mask. How to recognize emotions from facial expression

Author: Paul Eckman

I read this book many years ago and still use it for reference. Not your typical body language book: this one focuses solely on facial expressions and the emotions they express.

The book is about how to read very small shadows on people's faces. It can help you become more empathetic and is considered a "classic" among books for reading people's emotions.

You want the best book on how to understand people's facial expressions.

DO NOT buy this book if...

You want something about body language in general.

5. I will show you!

Author: Joe Navarro

Joe Navarro is really milking his past as an FBI agent and has written no less than 5 books on the subject. But what he writes is really cool, so why not?

This book is about understanding body language in a business context. It's very different from "Fuck me!", so you can easily read both.

6. Universal body language. Understanding the human being through gestures

Author: Philippe Turchet

This is a discreet body language book, but there are better ones (like the ones at the beginning of this guide) that are more helpful.

It's about the usual stuff, like understanding what others mean and how to improve your body language. On the plus side, it has great illustrations, which is why I think it deserves a spot on this list.
