Keep your brain young

Last update: April 13, 2022

According to a study published by Keith L. Black, director of the Department of Neurosurgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, anyone can do some activities to keep their brain young.

It also ensures that a few simple habits reduce the risk of brain disease. In the following lines we present the measures to be taken to keep the brain young, therefore healthier.

Healthy habits to keep your brain young

Rest when stressed

If an imprecise feeling of anguish and anxiety invades us, out of a sense of responsibility or excessive worries, the best is to take a break.

Take a break from work, get some exercise, meditate or just take some time to relax.

Sleeping when needed

If you feel very tired during the day, don't hesitate to take a nice nap. The body speaks to us: let's listen to it. Sleeping is a protective measure for the brain.

Follow proper nutrition to keep your brain young

The diet should include good amounts of grains, legumes and vegetables. Walnuts are great for feeding the brain, as are all foods that contain Omega-3 fatty acids.

Have healthy hobbies

From word games to crosswords or puzzles, there are many activities that are healthy for the brain. Any activity that requires a good deal of concentration is ideal; for example, perform a manual activity or read.

Do not abuse with alcohol

Alcohol should be consumed in moderation as it has severe effects on the brain. In large quantities and consumed regularly, they can reduce brain mass and impair various cognitive functions, including memory.

Don't smoke to keep your brain young

Among other harmful effects, tobacco damages neurons. Aneurysms and strokes are common in smokers. Tobacco also causes lung cancer which, in a large number of cases, spreads to the brain.

Take Vitamin B

The entire B complex is essential for the proper functioning of the nervous system central and peripheral.

This vitamin seems to directly affect concentration and memory, so it is advisable to include it in your diet.

It is found in the entrails, but also in foods such as fish, beef, pork, brewer's yeast, whole grains, nuts, avocados, legumes, vegetables, seeds and mushrooms. A wide range of possibilities to choose from.

Protect cardiac health

The heart and the brain are closely related. It is important to pay attention to any heart symptoms. Likewise, balance cholesterol and triglyceride levels through exercise and a healthy diet.

It is also helpful to know how blood pressure works. A cerebrovascular accident can occur at any stage of life. Prevention is the best remedy so that it does not occur.

Correct glucose intake

The brain keeps active mainly thanks to the glucose we take in. In light of this, it is not advisable to spend long periods of fasting, or to eat only when one is about to pass out. We get glucose from foods like fruits and proteins, which are far better than plain sugar.

Red fruits to keep the brain young

In addition to being delicious, the red fruits showed a significant impact on the rejuvenation of the body, including the brain. Don't hesitate to eat strawberries, blackberries, raspberries and blackberries.
