How to cure frustration

Last update: 21 September, 2015

Do not despair, not even of not despair. When everything seems to be turning to an end, just then new forces arise to move forward; and in this consists the meaning of life.

Franz Kafka

Certainly at some point in your life you have felt frustrated. When you wanted to achieve something but failed, when you had a goal and an obstacle made it difficult for you to reach the goal ...

It is normal to feel frustrated at times. However, we must not confuse frustration with defeat. Do we get angry because we feel frustrated? Are we distressed? Are we sad? This is normal, but you have to learn to see the bright side. Let's see what strategies we can follow and what we can do ourselves for cure this frustration that can stop us and sink us.

Identify the goals you want to achieve

There are some goals or goals that you have not yet achieved. It's harder than it looks, it's hard to get what we want. This is not bad. If something is difficult, it will be worth it. When we reach our goal, we will feel happier that we have succeeded.

Before the frustration appears, find out why you cannot achieve what you aim for. Talk about it and don't suppress your frustration. Show it! You may not be walking the best path to achieve what you want. Maybe it's unreachable and you don't realize it. Talking about it can help you.

Look for alternatives

If you have not been able to reach one goal, look for another one. Maybe you are proposing yourself impossible dreams to do for the circumstances in which you find yourself. Look for something that is within your means, that you can get. It is very important that you feel motivated to do it. If you want something, look for it and put all your effort into it. If you don't get it, nothing happens. There will be many dreams to fulfill.

Be realistic with the goals you set for yourself. Don't want the impossible, this will only increase your frustration. Look for alternatives that are realistic and that you can realize.

Accept the obstacles

As the saying goes, "life is not all pink and flowers". Don't expect everything to be easy, it better not be. Difficulties and obstacles help us to overcome ourselves, to be better. Be positive in the face of obstacles and do not allow them to hold you back on your way.

Think that difficulties are opportunities that must be exploited, not impediments, but opportunities that make us grow and move forward.

There are things that you have not been able to achieve, but others have. Think of these to find strength. You also need to understand that you can't get it all, but something yes and this is positive. You have to own confidence and self-esteem. You have to believe in yourself.

What you have achieved can give you some leads. Why have you been successful in this and not in that? What are you doing wrong? Perhaps it can help you open your eyes to what is possible and what is not possible.

Allow yourself to be wrong

Making mistakes is good, lets learn from them and move onotherwise we will freeze. Change thoughts of defeat with thoughts of success and never feel guilty for mistakes. This will only cause you insecurity and it does not suit you. Security is important to get what you aim for.

We must also learn to forgive ourselves for making mistakes. Believe in ourselves, start over. These are things that need to be addressed.

Don't expect anything from anyone

Do not idealize anyone and do not place exaggerated expectations on certain people. We are human and, therefore, imperfect. It will frustrate us to see how what we hoped for from someone is not fulfilled. If we don't expect anything from anyone, we won't feel disappointed. We will be happier and, consequently, more positive.

As we have seen, it is possible to overcome frustration or, at the very least, understand it. It is important to understand what we are feeling, but instead of rejecting a negative feeling, we learn to accept it and get the positive side. Fight for what you want to achieve, only those who don't try really fail. Resist, persist and you will get it.

If not, do nothing; maybe it wasn't your chance. Don't despair. There will be other occasions when you will get what you want and, above all, don't be afraid to try again. You think it is better to try and fail than to regret not trying.
