Actress Hilaria Baldwin chooses him daily for breakfast and her children's snack. Overseas it has long been found in supermarkets.
And in various cities, local specialized in the sale of cappuccinos, smoothies and teas based on this "amazing" ingredient. But even in the country there are those who have started to offer it. Marzio Barcella, bartender from Bergamo, uses it for cocktails and non-alcoholic drinks.
From the plant to the drink
«The hemp milk it is obtained by grinding the seeds of hemp sativa. It is a legal and beneficial variety, already used to obtain flours, pasta, sweets and oil. Rich in proteins and vitamins like A and E, it is a valid alternative to cow's milk not only for those who want to vary the diet in a healthy way or made a vegan choice, but also for the lactose intolerant. Being devoid of the sugar naturally contained in animal milk, it is more digestible ”, explains Serena Capurso, nutrition biologist.
A help for the bones
«Hemp milk contains about 30% of the recommended daily allowance of vitamin D and a good amount of football, two substances important for the robustness of skeleton which are present in cow's milk but naturally absent in the vegetable ones (almond, coconut, oat) to which they are usually added », explains Dr. Capurso. «It should not be forgotten that the hemp drink is excellent source of minerals such as magnesium, potassium and iron ».
It is also good for children
Hemp milk it is rich in the "good lipids" Omega 3 and Omega 6. It has larger quantities than other plant versions, which is why it is ok not only for adults, but also for the little ones.
«These polyunsaturated fatty acids are valuable for heart health, because they help keep arteries "clean" (reducing the buildup of bad cholesterol on blood vessel walls) and adjust the pressure. Plus, they're good for the brain. They ensure proper nourishment and contribute to keep neurons young and active, promoting mental efficiency », concludes our expert.
Two drinks to make at home
To get hemp milk blend 100 g of seeds with a glass of cold water and filter through a colander. Drink it immediately or use it (taking advantage of its creaminess) to prepare healthy cocktails. Here are two recipes signed by the barman Marzio Barcella.
> Energizing smoothie: centrifuge 4-5 strawberries with 1 peeled orange. Then blend the juice obtained for 20-30 seconds, adding 1/2 banana, 3O ml of hemp milk, 30 ml of almond milk, 2-3 ice cubes.
> Detox shake: add 1 piece of ginger about the size of a hazelnut, 2 tablespoons of blueberries with 2 slices of ananas. Then add 50 ml of hemp milk and 2-3 ice cubes to the juice.
