How hemp sativa flour is obtained

The hemp seed flour is obtained by grinding the seeds of the Cannabis sativa plant.

The seeds are pressed in a press, then ground and reduced to powder in a mill, giving life to a soft flour also known simply as hemp flour. 


Properties and use of hemp sativa flour

Hemp flour contains all 8 essential amino acids, including methionine and cysteine ​​which are normally poorly represented in other plant-based proteins. 

65% of hemp protein is represented by edestin, a protein that is easily digested, while gliadin and glutenin, or gluten, are completely absent. 

For this reason, hemp flour is suitable for people with celiac disease and it is also useful to strengthen the immune system, the nervous system and the hormonal system

Fiber is very abundant and make it an ideal food for the fight or prevention of constipation. The mineral salts present in a significant way are: potassium, magnesium, iron and zinc, while as regards vitamins, tocopherols (vitamin E) are mainly present.

Sativa hemp flour products

Various food products are obtained from hemp: wholemeal and hulled seeds,hemp seed oil, hemp seed milk, hemp tofu, in addition, of course, to the flour. 

The hemp seed flour, in turn, can be used for the production of bread, leavened cakes and biscuits, and its taste vaguely recalls that of hazelnut flour.


A recipe up your sleeve

Hemp flour it can also be added to other flours and used in breading, frying and dough for pizza, bread and desserts.  

Excellent if used for the preparation of homemade pasta, pasta with or without eggs and gnocchi.

Hemp paste

Ingredients for 4 people:

  • 300 gr. Semolina flour,
  • 80 gr. Hemp flour, 1
  • 50 gr. Waterfall,
  • salt.

Procedure: combine the two flours together and pour them on a pastry board, adding the salt and half of the water. Knead with your hands and gradually add more water until you get a smooth and elastic dough. 

Form a ball, wrap it in a dry cloth and let it rest for about 30 minutes. After the necessary time, roll out the dough into a thin sheet and cut into tagliolini. Cook them in abundant salted water and simply season with sautéed cherry tomatoes with a drizzle of oil, capers and olives.
