Colors influence the mood

Last update: February 18, 2022

Several studies reveal that colors influence the mood, but it has not yet been scientifically proven that they are a key element from a therapeutic point of view, therefore treatments such as chromotherapy are considered simple natural alternatives, because they do not meet the necessary medical requirements. which would confirm its scientific validity.

Even if colors do not play a decisive role in the treatment of any ailments, what is certain is that they can change our emotions. Colors affect the mood, even if only in a small percentage.

Red, orange and yellow

They are stimulating colors, which activate and give energy. They incite action and give courage. They are the colors that people who feel depressed and who tend to lose heart need. If you want a feeling of optimism, wear garments of these colors during the winter, because they give the idea of warmth and liveliness.

If you have to color the walls of a room, remember that colors such as red, yellow or orange "light up" and give energy, you can therefore use them in an area of the house that you dedicate to different activities and not where you want calm and relaxation.

Green, blue and purple

They are soothing colors that give an idea of tranquility and relaxation. They have a calming effect on the mind. They are ideal to wear to a job interview because they convey calm, sincerity and a sense of responsibility.

Green is the color of nature, blue is that of the sky, purple is the elegant one of flowers… All elements that give a message of emotional healing. They are the ideal colors for the walls of the rooms where you want to indulge in relaxation.

White and beige

They are neutral and cold colors, a clear symbol of purity and simplicity. They are ideal for the walls of the rooms where you want to find concentration. They do not trigger emotional changes, so they are suitable for example for rooms such as the study or office. If you wear white clothes during the winter, they will have a cooling effect.

Pink and fuchsia

Light pink conveys a sense of goodness, innocence and good intentions, although subconsciously it can give the idea of immaturity. The ideal color if you need someone to trust you for some reason. As for the decorations, usually pink is used in rooms intended for girls, even if many mature people love this color and it does not have to have a negative connotation, on the contrary, it is a symbol of altruism, good heart and sensitivity..

Fuchsia, which is a stronger and brighter variety of pink, may come close to the colors that activate and energize, such as red, orange and yellow that we talked about earlier.

Black and gray

Black conveys sadness and pessimism, but as far as clothing is concerned it is a symbol of elegance and seriousness. It is not recommended to wear black clothes during the winter because, from a visual point of view, they do not give the idea of warmth and freshness.

Gray also gives a sense of sadness, pessimism and negative vibes. Wearing gray clothes conveys the idea of independence, distrust, boredom, discouragement, but also of respect, professionalism and seriousness.

Why do we choose to dress in a certain color?

When we get dressed, we subconsciously do it following the emotions we feel in that moment. If you are aware of the effect of each color, you can use them to change your mood. Generally, if we get up in a bad mood, we feel depressed and discouraged, so we tend to choose dull and negative colors, if, instead, we get up happy, we prefer more cheerful colors.

If you go against what you would normally do, you can change your mood. Analyze your emotions and decide how you would like to feel instead, that is, one day you wake up and say: “Today I feel without energy and vitality, that's why I will choose brightly colored clothes”, then wear a bright green T-shirt and smile!

In this way, you force yourself to take action and change your mood. Even if colors don't work wonders, they will certainly help improve your emotions depending on what you are feeling at a given moment.. If you wake up stressed and need to relax, choose calming colors like blue, green or purple.

Also take into account where you have to go and the impression you want to give, because going to a friendly environment or going to an important meeting are not the same thing. Colors have been shown to influence mood, albeit not to a great extent ... Every little effort you make in your favor will only improve your emotions!
