Are we chained elephants?

"The elephant does not run away because it has been tied to a stake since it was very small ..."

It was Jorge Bucay who gave us this excellent story that makes us reflect on all our past failures, on those chains that have clung to our being and our mind and prevent us from living normally.. These are experiences that, far from enriching us mentally, keep us stuck in the past and make us much more than cautious: we become unsure of ourselves. Sometimes, it is our upbringing, the legacy of a parent, a home or culture that are the factors that attach these invisible chains to us, which prevent us from moving freely on the path we really want to take. The chains, however light they may be, are still a burden. But, both we and the elephant, we can and have every right to break them.

The fear of failure

Sometimes, the fear of failure is so strong that we can't even take the initial step. What would become of us if, for example, we change jobs or if we dare to travel to another country to look for a job or if we decide to break up with our spouse because our marriage is unhappy? There are many factors that combine with each other when we have to make a decision and break those chains that bind us: insecurity, fear, uncertainty, lack of self-confidence ...

Often, we set ourselves limits and force ourselves to live in our daily life, in our comfort zone, but continuing to fantasize about “what could have happened if…”. As Albert Einstein stated, the fear of failure will prevent us from attempting any action and will lead us to do the same things over and over again and want different results. However, if we truly want to achieve happiness and live life as we want, we must begin to have more confidence in ourselves, we must love each other and we must feel that, not only are we perfectly capable of doing what we want, but also that we are able to do what we want. we fully deserve it.

Break the chains

Take a moment to think about all the times when interesting opportunities have come knocking on your door. Why didn't you grab them if you really wanted them? Wasn't it time or wasn't it for you? You need to start asking questions like these. We all know that sometimes life is complicated, that we are not alone in carrying the weight of this cross, that there are many things that determine us when deciding, but it is always important to establish a series of priorities and understand what it is. most important to us at all times.

What will happen to you in the near future? Try to think of it and visualize it. If the image that forms in your mind is not to your liking, you must begin to move and shake off those chains that hold you prisoner, to obtain the future you really deserve. Undoubtedly, self-confidence will be the first value that you will have to develop: we all have a series of talents and abilities that make us unique and special; we are all wonderful with our particularities. Search within yourself, find them, look in the mirror and convince yourself that you are perfectly capable of initiating change.

Fear and insecurity are steps that you will have to learn to overcome to get to the top, because life is a great adventure and it is worth living it the way you really want to. While it may seem nearly impossible to break those chains, remember that you are big and strong, just like an elephant. It all depends on you!
