7 tips for dealing with difficult times

Last update: December 09, 2016

Useful tips are a precious gift that, in difficult moments, reaches its maximum value. Who has never gone through one of those moments when it seems impossible to find a way out? In situations of this type, it is inevitable to end up with an increasingly cumbersome pessimism. And it is precisely in these moments that good advice can make the difference.

"Every difficulty you fly over becomes a ghost that will disturb our sleep."

–Frederic Chopin–

As smart and intelligent as you are, there will always be a moment in your life when you don't know which way to go. To be able to find some light in such dark times, there are 7 tips that can be for you.

1. In difficult times: Accept without resisting

We usually think that if things don't go our way, it's because it's all against us. It is difficult for us to accept reality as it is and reconcile it with our expectations. This habit, in the long run, only makes us suffer.

Difficult times come because it needs to be like that. Being able to get out of them does not mean running away from them, but accepting them. With difficult times, new teachings also come from outside and from ourselves. These are unmissable opportunities for growth. The more you try to resist and oppose difficulties, the further you will be from resolving them.

2. Don't feel or act like a victim

The temptation to victimize ourselves is always there, around the corner. It is a typical attitude of the human being, but at the same time extremely harmful. What's the point of pitying yourself what if all you are doing is postponing the responsibilities of what happens in your life?

We are partly responsible for everything that happens to us. No problem falls from the sky. We have certainly done something or not done something to bring about this situation. Victimizing is one way to increase impotence and convince yourself that it is impossible to prevent negative things from happening again.

3. Search within yourself

When we are overwhelmed by problems, we usually turn our gaze to external agents. We try to act on what surrounds us, with the enthusiasm or the intention to change it and thus get out of difficulties. This attitude, however, is very unproductive, essentially because reality is made up of many contingent forces that are beyond our control.

In difficult moments we must look inside ourselves above all. We have to change, since the change will sooner or later also affect external circumstances.

4. Thank the universe and life

It is perfect advice to overcome any moment of sadness or bad mood. Just close your eyes, take a deep breath and say "thank you". Trust in the great wisdom of life. If you are having a hard time, it is surely because you need it.

This simple ritual has amazing effects. By simply thanking out loud, we are immediately transported into a different emotional state. It does not matter if this gratitude does not come immediately from the heart, you will see that, over time, that "thank you" will be filled with content.

5. Remember that everything changes

Keep these words in mind and remember that you can use them in any situation: "It's just a moment, it will pass." Everything in the universe is dynamic and ever changing. When we find ourselves in a difficult situation, or on the contrary very happy, we tend to think that it will last forever. But is not so.

Sometimes you just have to know how to wait and let things fall into place. Thinking about something else and dedicating yourself to different activities, solutions and answers will begin to emerge. Other times, however, you will have to be the one to act and then wait for the moment to reap what is sown. Trust.

6. Seek a new perspective

When faced with a difficulty, you can take different perspectives. It can be seen as a catastrophe comparable to a tsunami. It can be seen as an obstacle that must be avoided, as a barrier to be broken or as a test of how hard life is.

Conversely, you can also choose to see that difficulty as a challenge to your growth, an opportunity to get to know yourself better or to develop your patience. You are the creators of your thoughts and your way of seeing the world. It depends on you how you want to deal with one or more problems when they arise.

7. Convince yourself that anything is possible

In difficult times, pessimism seems to have a fast track. Sometimes, one comes to believe that behind a hope, there may be a new disappointment coming. It is important to reflect on the difference between "expecting the best" and "creating an illusion". The first means opening up to the possibility that favorable events may occur. The second means feeding an obsessive, groundless fantasy.

Never forget that miracles can happen every day and that you are a human being capable of overcoming any adversity. You yourselves have within you the ability to create the unexpected. Often it is precisely the difficulties of life that push us above, even of ourselves, showing us how we can continue to grow at any age.
